spam+is+killing Protecting Your Blog From Lazy Bloggers and Spammy ScriptsLazy bloggers and spamming scripts are a threat to the creators of unique content. They destroy your uniqueness and drop your rankings. They pose a serious threat to your blog.

Some bloggers are quite lazy and they want to make easy money by copying content from other blogs. They just copy and paste someone’s unique content and propagate it in social media to sit back and earn without investing anything. Some are even smarter. To be safe from copyright issues, they copy few lines from a post and then give a link to the post someone else has written. Some even do not include their opinions and just do copy and paste work and give a backlink.

You may be thinking that these backlinks are helping in your SEO. But, they are just spamming your weblogs link and dropping your rank. Search Engines hate duplicate content and this is what those lazy bloggers and spammy scripts are doing. They are taking away your uniqueness and making your hardwork futile by duplicating your content and spamming your link.

In this post I am going to tell you how you can protect your blog from those lazy bloggers and spammy scripts that are turning you down.

Blog Protection

Copyright your content - This is the easiest and a must for content protection. You can get copyright protection from CreativeCommons. ‘Creative Commons‘ is an organisation that provides copyright protection for artists, publishers, eduactors, authors and developers. This copyright protection links to a page where you can find the detailed copyright notice which can be used in legal proceedings (if required) later on. To know more about ‘Creative Commons’ , I would suggest you to visit their FAQ section and see yourself their working in detail.

Find the stolen content- Finding the stolen content online is quite an easy task to do. You can take assistance of websites like Copyscape.com to find the websites that are duplicating your content. Copyscape’s paid service provides facility to let you know your content duplication in your e-mail as soon as it is done.

You can also use Google Blog Search to find duplication of your content. Just vist the search page and give few lines from your content in double quotes and hit the search tab. You are now with the results on your screen. You can easily spot if your content is duplicated and take further actions.

Some bloggr use Google Alerts for the purpose of their content protection. Google alerts is mainly used to get alerts for your favorite topic directly in your e-mail box. With this feature, you can create alerts for the phrases you are using in your content and get alerts in your e-mail when someone duplicates your content. I have used this feature and thus, would not suggest you this method for your content protection because most of the time these alers are irrelevant.

Removing the Stolen Content

Protecting Your Blog From Lazy Bloggers and Spammy ScriptsIf you countered your content duplication, then your first step should be to get your content removed from the website. An easy method to do is to contact the blog/website owner who is using your content and tell him that your the content creator and you want it to be removed.

If he does not do so, warn him to take legal action against that jerk and if he does not remove, then drag him to “Internet Crime Complaint Center”. The above method is OK if you know the e-mail adress of the person or other contact info. In most cases, such thiefs hide their identity and thus, play with your hardwork.

To get contact information of the domain owner who is stealing your content, you can use WHOIS Lookup Service. In most of the cases, here too, the web owners opt for domain privacy because they know that they are wrong.

For such cases, I have an easy way out their. This easy way is none other than Google Safe Browsing. Here, we should be thankful to Google. If you are out with nothing about the content duplicator, you can request Google to enquire about the site and de-index it using Google’s Web Search help center. In this help centre, you can request Google to ban the duplicated content site from indexing. Most of these type of lazy bloggers or website owners use Adsense to earn money. Google cancels their Adsense account due to copyright violation and they loose everything.

So, what you think?

I completely agree with Aditya’s “blog protection” idea. First of all, lazy bloggers have been a thorn in my side for many years. They cut and paste someone else’s work and claim it as their own to make an extra buck. Blogging and website upkeep takes effort and time. People should not piggy-back on the shoulders of those who take their blogs seriously. Aditya’s examples of copyright protection, and removing all stolen content is the only way to stop these thieves from attacking. There should be software available to bloggers that prevents other people from pirating their information. I am glad that internet crime is being taken seriously, although I feel that it is a little long in coming. These lazy people have been profiting off responsible bloggers for far too long.
