Ya, it is true. If you signup for one Gmail account, you are definitely having zillions of e-mail addresses . You must have been amazed by this. But let me make it clear. Actually when you create a gmail account say – something@gmail.com, then itself you are up with many e-mail addresses. The fact that google doesn’t recognize symbols after plus(+) sign, makes it happen so.
This means that if you have e-mail address as something@gmail.com, then google will not recognize anything after ‘plus(+)’ sign in your username and deliver all e-mails sent to something+x@gmail.com to one e-mail address, that is something@gmail.com.
Since there can be anything after ‘+’ sign, it means that something@gmail.com can recieve e-mail sent to something+x@gmail.com, something+y@gmail.com, something+z@gmail.com and the list continues…
Now this fault in the GMail system can be well exploited to our benefit. You can give your regular gmail address to anyone and give a customized e-mail (say, youremail+personal@gmail.com) to your close contacts. Then you can set a filter for the customized e-mail and ensure that you never miss an e-mail from your close ones.

Pretty surprised to know that I have “Zillions” of GMail e-mail addresses http://tinyurl.com/c5mvnl
This isn’t a fault or an exploit, it’s an implemented feature!

@ rakeleer – i know that it’s an implemented feature but for people that believe in abstraction, it was better to proclaim it as a fault.
I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
I really liked your blog!
