Speeding Up Disk Clean Up Scanning Time

It is almost a must for a hard disk lover to run disk clean up utility once every 3 or 6 months to free up your hard disk. Normally, disk clean up scan process will take much time to complete the scanning process as it scans through old compressed files as well. We can reduce the scanning time by instructing the utility to not scan the old compressed files.

To speed up scanning process, you need to delete old compressed files from registry editor. Just follow the steps below. Before starting, you may want to backup your registry in case you want restoration of your registry to orginal settings.

1. Go to start and then click on “Run…”

2. Type regedit and press enter.

3. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VolumeCaches

4. Click on Compress old files registry entry.

5. Press ‘delete’ button to delete the entry.

6. Restart your computer in order to take effect of change.
