With the announcement that Google will utilize its software skills to help reduce pressure on environment by reducing the global warming emissions that evolve during the process of electricity generation, we could hope for a greener environment in future.

Google Inc said that it will help save the environment by utilizing its technical skills to enable consumers track their energy consumes and will thus help reduce the emission of environment polluting gases that are released during electricity generation.

Google mentioned on its official blog that a utility called Google PowerMeter will be launched which will enable users to see their electricity use and consumption in real time on their computer screens.

The company cited that access to home energy information helps to save between 5% and 15% of the energy use.  “It may not sound like much, but if half of America’s households cut their energy demand by 10 percent, it would be the equivalent of taking eight million cars off the road,” Google said.

At present, this Google PowerMeter is still in beta and is being used by its employees only. However, it is hoped that Google will roll out this interesting and new utility in next few months. Till then, stay alert, limit electricity consumption and save environment.
