Bloggers and web developers are often in need of inserting documents to their website/blog to share the content of the document with their readers. Mostly such people use a flash widget for displaying content of the document or they upload it on their web server and request the visitor to download and read the file. However, if you do not want your visitors to download the document to be able to read the information or if you do not want to spend time developing flash widgets for the purpose of displaying your document, you should give way to DocShots.
DocShots provide you with the ability to create a library of your documents which you want to distribute for public viewing. The library of documents can then be embedded in a page. To read the content of the documents, the visitors just need to hover over a text link and they will be brought forward a small window showing the contents of the document.
The concept is not new and Apture or HHOTT View provides similar features but what makes DocShots more useful is its additional features. The most notable feature of DocShots is that it allows more formats to be posted such .pdf, .doc, .ppt, .xls files. The publisher can also customize the size of window that pops up when a visitor hovers over a link. DocShots also provides you with traffic tracking. It provides complete reports including number of time the document is viewed, downloaded or printed.
DocShots is in beta version and is totally free. You need to register at DocShots website to use the feature. Registered users will be given a java code that is needed to be embedded in the website. Once embedded, publishers can login to their account and start uploading documents for public viewing.
