I’m a iphone person, before that I was a treo person. Before that a palm person, before that a handspring person, before that a palm person. Yeah I like my PDA’s and switched back and forth when the tech became better per device.
Or when the down button became worn out on my devices, I read on them as well. The palm line jumped the shark IMO when they went to NVFS Non-Volatile File System from the 600 to the 650. Ok this just sucked, palm went from a device that never crashed IMO to a daily crasher.
I understand why they went to it, your battery ran out and you lost everything. They would of been better off purchasing a backup company, and giving a 256 mb card and having the device back up all the time to the card.
I assisted my clients in selecting computer hardware and they were usually on the go professionals. I was usually consulted on the phone they needed. I nudged everyone who asked into a treo 600 with sprint. Back then you could get an unlimited internet for $5.00 PER MONTH, if you talked sweetly to a rep on the phone.
I was so excited when the treo 650 came out. I was with att and ran out and plunked my money down. God the thing would crash with the ringer turned on, with it turned off it would not crash. ok I kept the ringer off and became hyper aware of the vibe.
We moved to a house with all tile floor and my cat knocked the treo off face down on the tile from my bedroom nightstand.
I stole my wifes iphone, she thought the iphone was cute, i was ok no problem.
Wow a few days latter I had a iphone. I loved it. Now with anything you love the romance does wear off. I think we are at that stage. My treo 650 had a button stuck on it, and reading on the web I saw a do it yourself fix. I took it apart.
I fixed it. I still use my treo to read with. The battery life on it is so great.
The last year I have steered family members away from the palm line because they were still very buggy and crashing and I felt they had kicked us to the side, people like shadowmite were creating boot roms and custom linux ports.
And then we jumped ship to the iphone. Ok battery life, on the iphone it just plain sucks, I have a charger in car, usb cable in laptop, secondary ac charger in laptop bag.
I plug in as soon as I am in the car. I listen to everything by john c dvorak, (I love cranky geeks) some leo leporte twit and steve gibson’s security now.
John C Dvorak even makes my non geeky wife laugh…
Ok we all know about cut and paste, or the famous lack of it. To forward any text messages I screen shot the iphone’s screen and send it via email. Or picture mms, umm my moms phone has this and loved to keep in touch with us via pictures… I hate the ipod controls, I used pocket tunes on the treo, wow customized skins, and I had a 30 second skip forward button and a 5 second rewind button and they were huge!
Why cant I delete podcast after they are done from the phone?
Ok the web hands down the iphone kicked everyones but so badly, we it was enough to make you understand wow, APPLE GOT IT… Until I saw the pre… Peter Skillman said it best palm is back.
Ok we have the iPhone OS 3.0 is coming, preview on March 17th. Will it be enough to keep me as a customer?
I was a huge palm fan boy. I became a huge iphone fan boy. The windows mobiles, meh, I usually want to scream and start beating every MS person associated with the device within 5 seconds of using it.
My wife had a blackjack when her iphone was dropped and the power button jammed and caused an endless reboot. After putting the crapware active sync on my desktop and beating my firewall into submission to make it work (is it really necessary to create 26 rules to make it work Bill?) I took my wife iphone apart. Nice that att wont offer us insurance. Hey wow this this is nice, I fixed the problem and my wife went back to her iphone.
She does not want to switch to sprint because everyone we talk to is on att with the iphone.
I think we will be going with the everything plan and end up saving about 50 per month with sprint vs what I pay now for att.
My iphone has become windowish in the regard of OS slowdown. I image my windows machine and as soon as it slows down I go back to my image, restore update security patches, reimage untill the next slow down and repeat ad nausem. It works.
I have to reboot my iphone daily or use freememory on it, I don’t feel like taking the hours needed to restore it, as it is my lifeline to my work.
My wife is/was doing the same, a restore to it and her OS speeds back up. Its software or a memory leak or a memory fragmentation problem.
Will the 17th blow me away? How long till I am able to put it on my phone? Will I be able to put it on a first gen iphone? Will I like the pre when it comes out? Well I like the fact that I will have insurance on it.
The 3g? hmm looked at a iphone 3g, pulled up a fark non pda page 2 seconds faster, I can live without that and another 2 year contract.I have not played with the android phone so I can not compare, I no longer live in california and have changed jobs now.
Let me know your thoughts and passions, please no flames wars… I love both my treo 650 and my iphone, but some of the romance has left my iphone. (heh is the pre this years trophy wife? Or will she be the cute but loud drunk chick at the party taking her clothes off?)

I agree with – “The windows mobiles, meh, I usually want to scream and start beating every MS person associated with the device within 5 seconds of using it.”
a great comparison made between various mobile devices. the way the comparison was done (in form of story) is simply great.
