Change Serial Number of Your Hard Disk to keep your activation controlled software running

Some softwares are restricted by number of software installations or number of activation. These softwares use the Volume Serial Number to track where and how many times the software has been installed or activated. Volume Serial Number is unique and it changes when you format your hard disk. Some softwares (that are controlled by Volume Serial Number verification) might not work on your PC due to not able to recognise the old volume serial number. To get the serial number, just go to command prompt, then type ‘dir’ and press enter, the volume serial number will get listed as shown below:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>dir
Volume in drive C is OSDisk
Volume Serial Number is 12AF-YYZZ

Once you have changed the volume serial number using this utility, you must restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
