How to avoid getting Spam when sharing Email address

By Aditya On May 1, 2009 Under Tech Tips

spammugThe spam messages that you get are because of one main reason. The reason is that you have shared your email in an unsafe way. People often share emails on twitter, myspace, facebook, blogs and other spots across web in the common email format – something@something.com. There are loads of email harvesters and spam robots that grab email addresses in the mentioned format and your email address gets an easy target for spammers.

A common way to avoid spam is writing your email address in a different format; say something (at) something.com (avoiding ‘@’ symbol which is indicative of email). This does avoid spam robots from grabbing your email address. But in case you would like to have a better and safer way for sharing your emails, you can try Scr.im. Scr.im provides a much safer way for sharing your email and makes you get less spam (actually, no spam).

Scr.im is a free internet service that will provide a short and safe URL for your email sharing activity. Scr.im provides option to control your URL extension for easy remembrance. The format of URL(s) generated by Scr.im is http://scr.im/xxx, where xxx is the extension that can be defined by you. For instance, if your email address is howdy@something.com, then you can have a URL which is close to your email address, http://scr.im/howdy.

You can now use this URL for sharing your email across web. When someone clicks on this URL, he/she will be taken to a humanity check page and once the humanity test is passed, he/she will be given your protected email address for sending emails to you.

If you are an avid internet user you must be knowing that security vulnerability is very common with emails nowadays. If you do not want to be a victim, start taking measures to protect your email when sharing it across web.
