How to prevent infections from Malicious Autorun Files

by Aditya on May 16, 2009

Malicious autorun files on a USB or portable hard drive can cause serious damage to a computer’s health. A utility named as Autorun Eater can be of some help for those who want to take control over this problem. This software utility is able to monitor and detect malicious autorun files to prevent malware infections through USB or portable hard drives.

The software utility scans for malicious “autorun.inf” files in root directory of drives C-Z and removes them automatically. Before the malicious file is removed, Autorun Eater will back-up the file and generate a log for future reference. Drive A and B are reserved for floppy disk and are not automatically scanned by Autorun Eater. In case you need to scan your floppy disks, you have to do it in manual mode.

Autorun Eater is an executable file and it stays in the system tray and runs in the background. Therefore, it won’t be causing you any disturbance. Another good thing is that it does not require any installation. Just download and run the executable file and it will run in background to monitor all the autorun.inf files present in USB or hard disk drive and prevent your computer from virus or malware infection.

Autorun Eater is compatible with Windows 7/ Windows Vista and Windows XP. This version is still in beta and so the development team would love to hear your feedbacks.
