Now here is a situation that you must think of (if you are a Google Docs user). You are doing some important work on Google Docs and suddenly your computer halts or internet connection gets interrupted or some other problems arise and you lose your work. Many users, especially non-tech savy, will surely panic under such situations. To safeguard your work, you can backup all the documents from Google Docs to your local disk using GDocBackup application.
GDocBackup is an open source free utility licensed under the Apache License Version 2.0. It is capable of importing your documents from Google Docs to your local hard disk. Interested users can download the application by visiting here.
Using GDocBackup is very easy. Just download the GDocBackup application and run it. The users will then be produced with a window to configure their Google account with the application. Users need to type their Google account and password into GDocBackup window and determine the backup directory path.

One configured, you can then go to the ‘Export Format’ tab to determine the format of your backup documents. You can choose one of the various formats available. You can choose to save the backups in following formats: Document: doc, odt, png, rtf, txt, pdf; Spreadsheet: xls, csv, ods, tsv, pdf; and Presentation: ppt, PDF.

Now click the “Proxy” tab to set your proxy or use ‘direct connection’.

Once everything is configured right, you will be brought to the GDocBackup main page where you will need to click the “Exec” button to start the backup. You may be prompted to enter a password in case you did not already set that earlier. Wait for few minutes (depending on the file size) and our documents will be backed-up.

An interesting feature of this application is that GDocBackup downloads only files that have been changed since the last backup. This saves time and avoids file duplication.
