To download a YouTube video in mp4 format without using any extra software, just follow these simple steps:

1. Go the YouTube video you wish to download (say http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdVwC9KYhdE&feature=popular)

2. When the video starts to buffer, just put the following javascript code in the address bar of your web browser:

javascript:if(document.location.href.match(/http:\/\/[a-zA-Z\.]*youtube\.com\/watch/)){document.location.href='http://www.youtube.com/get_video?fmt='+(isHDAvailable?'22':'18')+'&video_id='+swfArgs['video_id']+'&t='+swfArgs['t']}

3. You will be then seeing a pop-up window saying to save the video in mp4 format.

4. Save the video to the desired location on your hard drive and enjoy.
