URL shorteners are widely used for sharing links on social media websites like Twitter and FaceBook. Hundreds of thousands of shortened URLs are shared everyday and to leverage this area of social media sharing, Google has finally brought its own URL shortening service by the name of Goo.gl.
As of now, Goo.gl is only available for Google products – Google toolbar and FeedBurner. Both of these services can now create shortened URL (using Goo.gl) that links to the content source.

With the launch of Goo.gl, Google has already entered into a competition with pre-existing giants of the service, namely bit.ly and tinyurl.com. Currently, it is limited to only two Google products but chances are that sooner or later it will be integrated in YouTube, Blogger, Google Maps and Google Reader’s sharing feature.
