iPad is a talk of the town and you can find a post or two about it on most tech blogs of the day. I too wrote a few post about this new baby in Apple’s ‘I’ family and recently, I highlighted how the usage of slates (iPad) will take over the usage of PCs and laptops (link). If you have read that post, you would remember that of the few reasons supporting the view (‘Slates will take over the usage of pc and laptops’), I mentioned about the well-established App store. Yea, the guys buying iPad will have plenty of options. I am a Twitter fan ( I am @anddjournal on Twitter) and I am fond of Twitter apps and clients. An other cool Twitter client except the usual TweetDeck is this app. It has a pretty unusual interface which is damn cool. For less than $5, you get a fantastic app..really!!

This is simply a dumbfounding app which give you access to the Wikipedia encyclopedia at a touch of your fingers. For $4.99, this is a simply awesome app that you should consider installing on your new iPad.

There is definitely a communication gap between people of different regions. However, there is a huge (really huge) communication gap between animals and humans. The gap is was so huge that understanding animal’s language sounded not more than a fiction few years ago. But thanks to Google (I am their fan..seriously) that has turned this fiction into reality quite very soon. Welcome a new Android app from Google – “Translate for Animals’”, a translator that translates animal’s noise to meaningful English sentences.

What is this new thing now – “Translate for Animals”?

“Translate for Animals” is an Android app from Google. It is a breakthrough beta application that has narrowed the communication gap between humans and animals to a greater extent. This new application is essentially a translator for your pet’s common expressions and emotions. It brings out the meaning of these in the language you (humans) can understand.

How do you use it?

Using the “Translate for Animals” app is very easy. For the start, all you need to do is install  the app on your Android phone. You can get it by searching for it in Android marketplace. Record the sound that your pet makes. The sound will then be sent to their cloud database for processing. The processing may take few minutes. At the end, the pet’s sounds will be interpreted and transcribed in English on your Android. You further get an option to hear the translated sound.

How does this work?

To develop Translate for Animals, Google worked closely with many of the world’s top language synthesis teams, and with leaders in the field of animal cognitive linguistics, including senior fellows at the Bodleian Library in Oxford.

Is this accurate?

For the question about its accuracy; I can’t really say anything definite on this. I have no way to find whether this is accurate. Be it true or false, the app is fun. I really liked the demo video of the app where an old man runs after his pets to get their feeling about him. In one way or another, you will be brought closer to your pets by listening pleasing words about you from them (even though it be false).

What’s next?

Next, people will be having this app installed on their Android phones and will use it to get acquainted with their pet’s feelings about them.  Accordingly, the love for their pets will be re-borne or the masters will kill their ungrateful pets.

Nokia Beta Labs has released a new mobile app for Nokia mobile phone users. Named as Nokia Image Space, it is an application that allows Nokia mobile phone users to instantly load their photos to Flickr. Further, the application also allows users to view their photos in a spatial browsing environment.

To use this application, a Nokia mobile phone user needs to have a Flickr account. The application has been designed to link a Flickr account to a Nokia mobile phone. Nokia mobile phone user who has installed this utility can simply capture the photo with his own camera and upload the photos to their Flickr account for sharing with friends and family .

Nokia further tells that the images uploaded on Flickr using Nokia Image Space will be automatically geo-tagged and will have orientation information in their Meta data and Meta description. This description would be used to link the images together so as to create a better understanding of the place when a user browses a location.

The Nokia Image Space application has been found to work on Nokia mobile phones which have built-in compass like Nokia N 79, Nokia S 60, Nokia 6210 navigator and Nokia 6710 navigator.

There was a time when copying and pasting was one of the biggest problems that an Apple iPhone user faced. Though this is a past now but still the work of copying and pasting on an Apple iPhone can be simplified to a great extent. Pastebot is a handy and powerful tool which lets you store multiple snippets of text, links, and even images, for easy transferring of them to a Mac or for printing them later.

It often becomes a pain to lock and unlock your Mac machine when you are in a crowded area and you need to move away from your machine every now and then. Fortunately, here is a smart application that automates the process of this frequent locking and unlocking.

Named as Airlock, it is an application that automatically locks your Mac machine when you leave and automatically unlocks it when you return. Basically, Airlock uses your iPhone or iPod Touch’s Bluetooth connectivity to detect your proximity to your Mac machine.

You are believed to carry your iPhone (with Bluetooth connection ON) with you when you are working on your Mac machine. Your Mac machine is automatically locked once you move away from your Mac and it stops receiving signals from your iPhone or iPod’s Bluetooth device. It is unlocked only once the Bluetooth signal is detected again.

Airlock provides quite a good load of options to make the process even more techie. It lets you set options to lock/unlock within a specified range of Bluetooth connection and also allows you to set up a password which will come handy in case the Airlock system fails.
