Google Alert is an awesome service. It sends you recent happenings from across the globe about the things of your interest. This utility offered by Google can be used to generate some quick quality baclinks for your blog. With 10 or 15 minutes of work, you will be able to add 10 to 15 high quality backlinks for your blog everyday. So without wasting any more of our time, lets get started.

To make this thing simple and easy to understand, I have decided to decompose this post into simpler and easier to understand steps.

1. Go to Google Alerts (http://www.google.com/alerts)

2. Create an alert for keywords relating to your blog niche and select ‘Blogs’ from type drop-down menu. Select ‘once a day’ from how often drop-down menu (this doesn’t fill up your email inbox with countless emails) and select appropriate option from Email length drop-down menu.
An alert for TechRavings will be something like the one shown below:

3. Now just take out 15 minutes of your time to go through these blogs and post quick comments. It is suggested that you throw a look at the post content before posting a comment. Further, post a comment that is relevant to the article and enter your website link in the field specified for it and not in your comment. This way your comment won’t go into spam.

Now even if you do just 10 posts a day, you will be adding 300 quality baclinks to your blog every month.

Keywords are probably the single most important aspect of all seo activities which are necessary for your web site to get higher search engine rankings. Most search engines take into count the keyword density within a web page while evaluating its ranking and importance in the search engine ranking pages.

Keyword density is an indicator of the number of times the selected keyword appears on the web page. But mind you, keywords shouldn’t be over used or spammed, but should be just sufficient enough to appear at important places.

If you repeat your keywords with every other word on every line, then your site will probably be rejected as an artificial site or spam site and also you can get banned by the search engines.

Keyword density is always calculated as a percentage of the total word content on a given web page. Suppose you have 100 words on your webpage excluding HMTL code used for writing the web page, and you use a certain keyword for five times in the content. The keyword density on that page is got by simply dividing the total number of keywords, by the total number of words that appear on your web page. So here it is 5 divided by 100 = .05 because keyword density is a percentage of the total word count on the page, multiply the above by 100, that is 0.05 x 100 = 5%

The usual standard for a keyword density is between 3% and 6%, to get recognized by the search engines and you should never exceed it.

Remember, that this imperative applies to every page on your site. It also applies to not just to one keyword but also a set of keywords that relates to a different product or service offered by you. The keyword density should always be between 3% and 6%.

Here is the simple step to check the keyword density:

Copy and paste the content from an individual web page into a word-processing software program like Word.

Go to the Edit menu>click Select All. Now go to the Tools menu>select ‘Word Count’. Write down the total number of words on the page.

Now select the ‘Find’ function on the ‘Edit’ menu. Go to the ‘Replace’ tab and type in the keyword you want to find. ‘Replace’ that word with the same word, so you don’t change the text.

When you complete the replace function, the system will provide a count of the words you replaced. That gives the number of times you have used the keyword in that page.

Using the total word count for the page and the total number of keywords you can now calculate the keyword density.

Using above formula you can find the percentage of the Keyword Density and there are number of online seo tools that help to calculate the keyword density, two of the good ones are:

Adding Dynamic Meta Tags And Description to Blogger

In case you are desperately trying out to get more visitors to your blog, and none of your efforts seems to make it happen this is a blogger hack you definitely should try it out.

By default blogger templates are not SEO optimized in many ways and one of them is Meta description and Meta tags of your blog. If you take a closer look at every post you write, you will quickly realize that all of your articles share the same Meta tags and descriptions, no matter what you write about, be that a technology article or a blogging tip. So when Google crawls your blog and indexes your posts, it will see the same descriptions for all of them, much like you were having several instances of the same post, instead of completely different articles.

To solve this problem you should add dynamic Meta tags and descriptions to every post you write including those from the past. By doing so, you will tell Google exactly what every article is about and consequently your posts are going to rank much higher with Google. Personally after having implemented this blogger hack, I saw an increase by 300%.

Now the sweetie part. Below is the code you should use to implement dynamic Meta tags and description to every post. Find this line in your blog “<title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title>” (without quotes) and paste the following code just below it:

<b:if cond=’data:blog.url == &quot;URL OF YOUR POST&quot;’>

<meta content=’INSERT YOUR DESCRIPTION’ name=’description’/>

<meta content=’INSERT YOUR KEYWORDS’ name=’keywords’/>

</b:if>

<!– place future descriptions and keywords here –>

Now you will have to insert the URL of your post, Meta tags and descriptions to this code.

Repeat this for all other posts, and insert the code over the line which says “place future descriptions and keywords here” So every time you do this there will always be that last line of code waiting for another dynamic Meta tags and descriptions.

Repeat this for every post you wrote, including your home page. Wait a few weeks and you will notice a sudden traffic increase from search engines such as Google, Yahoo and many more.

If you are using social media like Twitter for your blog promotion and you are using WordPress as your blogging platform, here is a plugin you must consider using. Named as Pretty Link, it is a WordPress plugin that lets you shorten links using your own domain name (as opposed to using tinyurl.com, bit.ly, or any other link shrinking service).

How to install Pretty Link plugin on your WordPress blog?

To install Pretty Link plugin on your WordPress blog, proceed as follows:

1.	Login to your blog’s admin area

2.	Click on ‘Add New’ under ‘Plugins’ present in left panel.

3.	Type Pretty Link in the search box.

4.	Click on ‘install’ beside Pretty Link plugin’s description.

5.	From the window that opens, click on ‘Install Plugin’.

6.	The plugin will be installed.

Besides shortening link using your own domain, Pretty Link also tracks each hit on your URL and provides a full, detailed report of where the hit came from, the browser, operating system and host.

How to use Pretty Link plugin for SEO?

Pretty Link plugin also helps in SEO. It is great for building links. You can select ‘301 permanent redirect’ for your links when you are on a link building project.

To set ‘301 permanent redirect’ for your links, proceed as follows:

1.	Click on ‘Add New Link’ under ‘Pretty Link’ present in the left pane of your WordPress admin panel.

2.	While adding new link, click on ‘SEO’ option and select ‘301 permanent redirect’.

Traditionally, this option is considered to be the best approach to use for your SEO/SEM efforts. However, since Pretty Link uses your domain name either way, this notion isn’t necessarily true for Pretty Links. Also, this option may not give you accurate reporting since proxy and caching servers may go directly to your Target URL once it’s cached.

You can shorten URLs on your domain using this plugin and spread it on social media websites like Twitter. For every retweet, your link will be indexed and you will see a hike in your link popularity.

Pretty Link is a killer plugin for people who want to mask their affiliate links, track clicks from emails, their links on Twitter to come from their own domain, or generally increase the reach of their website by spreading these links on forums or comments on other blogs.

You may choose a best among all available tools for a specific purpose. But for SEO, you need to use every tool that is out there in the business. It so because of the fact that most sites have plenty of links and you may miss out a bunch of them while checking from only one tool. Using different tools for backlink checking has one more advantage. Since different tools provide different categorization styles and use different data sources, you may have better understanding of backlinks your website/blog is getting.

Page Inlink Analyzer is another new backlink checking tool that you must add to your SEO arsenal. Using this tool is very easy and pretty straightforward. Just visit the Page Inlink Analyzer webpage and enter a URL. For the entered URL, you will be given following important data:

The list of pages containing or linking back to the specified URL. This data is based on Yahoo.

The list of other pages within the specified domain (including the number of inlinks for each one).

But still, there is a point that I would like to add here. This tool doesn’t provide any sorting option and this should necessarily be added to it. However, I liked the part how Delicious bookmarks and tags are integrated with backlinks data provided by this tool.

Almost all bloggers add images in their blog posts. Besides enhancing readability and understanding of blog posts, images can also be utilised for SEO. Adding Alt and Title Attributes to images can greatly improve your search engine rankings. However, adding these attributes properly is not that easy for a newbie. For such a SEO newbie, there is an awesome plugin called ‘SEO Friendly Images’ which adds title and alternative attributes to all your blog images and optimizes them for SEO automagically.

Once you have downloaded, installed and activated SEO Friendly Images plugin, you will notice few options under Settings Section in your WordPress Admin Dashboard. Here you can enter alt and title attributes to optimize all your blog images.

You can enter any text in the field including two special tags:

•	%title – replaces post title
•	%name – replaces image file name (without extension)
•	%category – replaces post category

This plugin is a must-have for wordpress bloggers. This plugin is seriously awesome in the sense that it adds alt and title attribute to hundreds of blog images that you previously missed. I would suggest using ‘%title’ in Title attribute and ‘%name photo’ in alt attribute. Using ‘%title’ in Title attribute is far better than having nothing as image title attribute. Also, adding ‘%name photo’ in alt attribute uses name of the image (without extension) in alt tag.

A new SEO tool has been launched. I do not actually know its launching date. But I am quite sure it is new. Named as Link Checker v2.0, the software is still in Beta. Link Checker v2.0 will fetch all your site backlinks with homepage PR, no follow or not and anchor text.

Frankly, there is nothing new that this software provides but the best thing is that it organizes backlinks in such a way that it provides you with maximum understanding of the quality of links you get. The tool tells you whether the backlinks you get is healthy or not.

Following colors are used to tell about the quality of backlinks your website receives:

This tool is superb functioning with no annoying ads and is currently free. Hope that it remains functional unlike other SEO tools that gradually stop functioning. Check out Link Checker v2.0 beta now

If you get a large share of your blog’s traffic from search engines and the ‘Bounce Rate’ is high, you need to do something very seriously about this. Bounce rate is the percentage of single-page visits or visits in which the person left your site from the entrance (landing) page. This metric is used to measure visit quality. A high bounce rate generally indicates that site entrance pages aren’t relevant to your visitors.

An easy way to minimize bounce rate is to show your visitors what they are searching for. Often, people leave a blog and move to another because they are not able to find the relevant material. And also, often it happens that you have same thing which the blog visitor is looking for but it is posted differently or presented in a different style. This situation can be curbed by the use of a new wordpress plugin.

The plugin description explains -

The widget aim is trying to reduce the bounce rate of your blog and provide the visitor a better navigation experience.

When a visitor lands on your site from a search engine result page, he is in need of a certain information / service your page might satisfy. It often happens the visitor go away just after reading that page, for various reasons. Why not to try suggesting him more posts on the topic he is interested in at that moment, so that he might visit more pages?

So, if you need a less of bounce rates and more fruitful search engine traffic, I would recommend you to use this plugin called “Search Engine query in WordPress“. You can download the new plugin by clicking here.

What does ‘banning’ means? Banning means that search engines will eliminate your website URL from their index and declare your site as ‘banned’. This means that your links will not be crawled into search engines and your website will not get search engines exposure.

The most common causes for banning of a website or a blog arises from the blunders created by bloggers or webmasters . Knowingly or unknowingly, most bloggers and webmasters commit these mistakes and as a result, their blog or website gets banned.

Here is a list of 5 mistakes that could get your site banned by search engines:

1. Unseen text – Some bloggers and webmasters use unseen keywords on their blog posts or wbpages. These texts are not visible to readers but are crawled by search engines. Back in the days, these proved helpful for some webmasters, but now it is considered as a sin by search engines spiders and can get you banned.

2. Using keywords which are not present on your website – Some bloggers or webmasters fill their ‘meta keywords’ with stuffs like “teen, celebrity, movies” (these are the keywords that get huge traffic) even when their site is about entirely different topic like ‘software’, ‘windows’, etc. This trick is mostly played by those that want to gain a share of traffic from some other niche. This is hated by search engines and you will be definitely banned for this because search engines’ duty is to help people get relevant content.

3. Illegal programs or software or scripts to work out website rankings or submit your website to search engines is against the Terms of Service of most of the major search engines and this may get you banned.

4. Keyword stuffing – Some webmasters and blog owners use excessive keywords in their ‘meta tags’. More than 20 keywords sould not be used in your meta tags. If you stuff your ‘meta tags’ with many keywords (more than 30 keywords is a sin), your website may get banned.

5. Doorway Pages – Doorway pages are single page websites that are used to send traffic to main website. These are intended to attract visitors and compel them to enter a website. Doorway pages are still used by some SEO firms but personally, I have seen many cases where the webmaster has been banned for using doorway pages.
